Utility Services Representative

Indianola Municipal Utilities will be accepting applications for the position of Utility Services Representative in the Utility Services Department.  This position’s responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to: front-line customer service functions for municipal electric, sewer, water, communications and recycling customers; receives payments for fees, permits, licenses, utility connections, utility bills, etc; balances cash receipts, utility payments, bank deposits, daily collections and disbursements; receives, dispatches and tracks requests for utility service problems; works with delinquent accounts for collection and service disconnection; assists customers in the selection and purchase of telecom products and services; trouble shoots basic telecom issues and schedules installation and service appointments; effectively communicates product and service information, feature functionality, billing procedures and equipment usage to each customer for all services.

Requirements include high school graduation, including or supplemented by courses in computer operations.  Three (3) years of experience working directly with the public and performing responsible clerical work, which includes computer operations and cash transactions or any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Three (3) years of Telecom background is preferred.

Water Plant Operator I

Indianola Municipal Utilities will be accepting applications for the position of Plant Operator I in the Water Department.  This position’s responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:  Installs, tests, maintains, and repairs meters; Investigates and repairs water leaks; Routinely exercises system valves and hydrants; Connects or terminates customer service as directed; Locates valves, mains, and stop boxes; Verifies meter readings; Inspects, maintains, and services electric motors at the plant and wells; Performs routine maintenance on utility vehicles; Performs daily tests to insure water quality; Maintains and repairs chemical feeders and chemical pumps; Performs routine water sampling in the distribution system to insure water quality according to all State, Federal, and Utility Board rules, regulations, policies, and water quality standards; Follows OSHA procedures to ensure safety policies and procedures are enforced.  Must be available for 7-day work and 24-hour emergency on-call rotation.

Requirements include high school graduation; prefer Water Plant Operator II certification or at least one (1) year of experience in meter maintenance and repair and the operation of valves, hydrants, and related equipment; Ability to acquire a State of Iowa Grade II Water Plant Operators License; Class B with air brake endorsement commercial driver’s license issued by the State of Iowa required; Knowledge of domestic water treatment and distribution procedures and practices; Knowledge of water meters, valves, hydrants and line including installation, maintenance, and repair; Ability to work in confined spaces or trenches for long periods of time and in unfavorable weather conditions.
